Final Thoughts

Over the course of this project, I have made two new dioramas, a completely new asset, remade an asset from first year, and rendered three assets that I have made in my own time.

New Dioramas:

'After The Storm' - A diorama based around Dontnod's Life is Strange (2015)

'Jinx's Grenade Workbench' - A Diorama based around Netflix and Riot Games' Arcane TV Series (2021)

New Asset

'Joel's Watch' - An asset made replicating an item from Naughty Dogs' The Last of Us Video Game Series (2013)

Remade Asset:

'Return of the Axe: The Second Swing' - Remade asset based on a Dwarven axe from Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Re-Renders:

Ripley's Motion Tracker - Asset from Creative Assembly's 'Alien: Isolation' (2014)

Pesky Goblin - Asset from Dontnod Entertainment's 'Tell Me Why' (2020)

'Abby's Flamethrower' - Asset from NaughtyDog's 'The Last of Us Part 2' (2020)

At the start of this module I felt overwhelmed to say the very least. Coupled with Journeyman it was hard to imagine how I would even get a single asset done, let alone two or three.

However, looking back I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It's given me an escape from Journeyman while being able to create assets in my own style, and also create whatever may trigger inspiration. I've gone out of my way to learn Unreal Engine rendering and cinematics, learned how to create tileable textures in Substance Designer, and even developed my sculpting over the final weeks of the module.

If I were to redo this module, I would probably do a few things differently. First and foremost, I would make a conscious effort to take more breaks. I have a nasty habit of overworking, and it does lead to burnout towards the end of the module. To avoid this I'd definitely take nights off, designate time for things that I want to do.

I would also learn more about how rendering works in UE4, as at the minute I simply guess half the time about what looks good in accordance to the rule of thirds and with the lighting.

The final change I would make would be to add steam into my initial piece coming from the coffee; something I tried to do but ended up abandoning.

Overall, though, I am happy with the work I have done and the things that I have learned in this module. I have worked to a schedule, set myself realistic time constraints and kept to them almost religiously.
